After a three-year break due to the global pandemic, the Socca World Cup is back—and bigger than ever. A total of 44 national teams will head to Budapest, Hungary for a nine-day football celebration, starting on September 10th, 2022.

Last week’s draw, held in the heart of the Hungarian capital, produced some thrilling matchups. Hosts Hungary will face Bulgaria in a much-anticipated group clash, while Poland, runners-up in the last two tournaments, have a challenging group with Slovenia, Lithuania, Morocco, and Costa Rica. Meanwhile, Germany, looking to bounce back after an early exit last time, find themselves in one of the tournament’s toughest sections.

Leisure Leagues’ Tom Nash, ISF Stadiums Director, expressed his excitement for the return of international socca:

“It really doesn’t matter who wins or loses—it’s just fantastic to see everyone back together again after all this time.”

The 2019 champions Russia will not participate, following a decision made in light of the war in Ukraine.

“It was made with a heavy heart,” Nash said, “but it was the right thing to do.”
